The South Central Service Cooperative Netbook Project in Arkansas History and Natural History is a program developed to assist teachers to effectively utilize specific technology in their classrooms.  The dual themes of the project are "Arkansas History” and “Arkansas Natural History.”  During the year, the teachers will receive a Netbook computer and a Nikon camera along with accessories for each. After receiving instruction in the technology and the development of wikis, participants will practice and demonstrate what they have learned through the creation of wiki pages on Arkansas history or natural history topics.  Each topic was chosen by the developers of the project to provide teachers with additional resources for teaching the content outlined in the Arkansas Curriculum Framework in Science and Arkansas Curriculum Frameworks in Arkansas History.

Participants will research their history or science topic and post the information on the co-op's wiki.  Following field trips to selected areas of the state, teachers will add photographs and additional information to their wiki pages. The project will sponsor field trips to Fort Smith National Historic Site, the Janet Huckabee Arkansas River Valley Nature Center, Massard Prairie Battlefield Park, Historic Washington State Park, Toltec Mounds State Park, Arkansas Post Museum, Plantation Agriculture Museum, Arkansas Post National Park, and Mark’s Mill State Park.
